How To Clean And Care For Your DangleBong Titanium Water Pipe

By DangleContributor @carterofmemphis

It’s been a fun summer huh? Camping, swimming exploring, backcountry ragers, and of course good ole Dangle Bong has been along for the party, right? Did you name it? Bedazzle it, we bet you did, and we’d love to see your customizations for aesthetics or functionality. Where were we, oh yeah last summer, whew! Did your Dangle Bong get dirty? No problem, our sturdy titanium construction and a few hacks from our field guide makes clean up a breeze.

Dan would like to mention that dangling, like life will be much easier if you remember to Always Bring Your Towel (paper towel that is). In order to maintain and effectively use your dangle bong we recommend the following be brought along when operating your Dangle Bong in the field. DIY tOkesPoke: take an old bicycle spoke, snip it, and push it into your cork for later maintenance.Danglebong – Clip it, stow it, let it fly!

  1. Cork – This keeps everything snug and together.
  2. NugHuggerTM – Stash this piece in your cork
  3. Toke Spoke – The little pusher that could, stash this in your cork as well.
  4. Paper towel – a couple sheets is fine here, just keep it dry till you need it.
  5. Lighter- For heating stuff.
  6. Knife - For Cutting & Scraping stuff.

Field Cleaning:

While undergoing regular use it is normal that detritus and resins may collect on your Danglebong system we have found the following to be a quick and easy way to keep things looking like new. The following guide assumes you have some limited access to water and common sense:

Titanium Bong danglebong water pipe adventure

Do you know where your towel is? Take your field kit out as described above. Prepare NugHuggerTM for cleaning by heating it slightly either through normal use or holding a lighter over the bowl area for 30-45 seconds. We aren’t trying burn anything off here, just make things move a little quicker for the next step.

FYI: if you’re an old pro and prefer isopropyl alcohol and salt go to town chief, this write up here is for our field officers doing us proud out in the wilds of where-ever-the-fuck. This step produces nasty, sticky, icky, goop that will add a very “authentic” patina to anything it touches. If this is not your intent, angle your dangle towards a cat hole, trash can, or preferred waste receptacle BEFORE you start cleaning. Once the resin is out of the tube and out rolling around in the world, things get messy quickly. We cool? Okay let’s move on.

1. As shown take your toke spoke and a small 1” x 1” strip of paper towel and roll it into a little tube. Put the paper into the back of the NugHuggerTM and set your tOkeS-pokE on the paper to push through the hole. Push slowly and evenly while turning the piece to insure proper cleanage.

2. Take your knife and angle it to run straight along the inside of your bowl to catch any buildup collected there. Wipe the knife blade off on a paper towel and heat knife edge to remove any extra buildup.

3. You may need to repeat step 2 again if after step 3 some buildup clogged the hole. After this the NugHuggerTM should be good to go.

4. The main body of Dangle cleaning need not be done terribly often. When needed, use warm soap & water and rinse with an old toothbrush or scrubber. This should remove all buildup and keep things shiny.

5. Now go back to the operations guide and figure out how we got in this mess in the first place.

How to Properly Operate your DangleBong Titanium Waterpipe

How to Properly Operate your DangleBong Titanium Waterpipe

Learn how to operate your new Titanium Bong

By DangleContributor @carterofmemphis

So, you want to know how maximize the potential of the ole Dangler eh? While your mileage may vary, and we could pontificate at length about technique, what follows is a basic guide for the uninitiated.

1. Laugh a little bit because smoking drugs is not serious.

2.  Fill the DangleBong main chamber with 1-1.5oz. of clean water. Do not use other liquids. Using crushed ice is with a dollop of water is super cool.   Draw through the device once or twice cautiously to draw all the excess water out of the chamber so it doesn’t interfere with the oncoming party.

3. Take the NugHuggerTM and fill it to your preference with the material of your choice. Insert the stem into the device.

4. Light the business end of the device and draw easily. When it seems like you are nearing capacity rip the NugHuggerTM from the base of the Dangle and enjoy.

Titanium Bong danglebong water pipe adventure

5. Re-insert the NugHuggerTM into the base and repeat as desired.

Don't be one of those gross bong-dummies who leaves water in their device. Pour out water on a plant friend in need, and then run a clean rag through your Dangle to limit moisture buildup and mold potential in the device. Stow everything in the cork top securely so it doesn’t come undangled on you.

Storage: When you aren’t actively traveling with your DB the best practice is to pull the cork away from the base and the NugHuggerTM away from the cork. Let it chill like this till you need it again.

Stay Chill,

FAQ about Titanium Anodizing

FAQ about Titanium Anodizing

Titanium Anodizing!

1. What is titanium anodizing?

Anodizing titanium is a process that adjusts the level of the oxide layer on the metals surface. This adjustment causes light to refract and changes the spectrum of light, resulting in perceived color. By precisely controlling the surface oxide level, an entire range of colors can be produced. Anodizing titanium is not a color coating, nor does it use dyes. The oxide layer on titanium grows naturally at room temperature.  Anodizing causes this oxide layer to grow further than it would naturally, producing thicker layers of oxide. As the layer thickens, it begins to interrupt the light waves as they pass through and reflect off the metal surface. This interference creates color. Since the thickness of the oxide controls the color that is produced, and since anodizing controls the thickness, the color produced in a given titanium piece becomes controllable through the anodizing process.

2. Is it safe to use?

It is equally as safe as titanium which has not been anodized. The colors that you see are the colors the titanium oxide layer is capable of producing. They are the same colors your nail cycles through when you first torch it. Anodizing is common on everything from bike parts to cookware. Though note that the process of anodizing Aluminum involves a dye, whereas titanium anodizing does not.

3. Can too much heat ruin it?

Yes. Direct heat from an open flame can change the color. This is part of what gives your piece an authentic lived-in quality.

4. Can you use ISO (rubbing alcohol) to clean it?

Yes. In fact, the process that creates the illusion of color is so precise that your finger oils will make the colors begin to appear to lose their brilliance. This color can be restored by a gentle wipe with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

5. How do I properly care for it?

Understand that the color is created by us controlling the precise thickness of the oxide layer on the outside of the titanium. Protecting this oxide layer will protect the design for years to come. Having a spot for it in your case will preserve the color more so than carrying it in your pocket. Try to store it in places where it will avoid any frictional contact that could damage the outer oxide layer.

6. How is it done?

We use a direct current power supply with one end of the electric current attached to an anode and the other end of the current hooked up to the titanium being anodized. The piece is immersed in an electrolyte solution and a voltage is placed across the piece. The oxygen in the water solution reacts with the surface of the titanium and grows to a precise thickness depending on the voltage traveling through the direct current. By controlling the voltage traveling through the electrolyte solution, we can control what thickness the layer grows too and thus control what color is obtained as an end result.
